High Summer Read-a-Thon

I’m actually a day late to this event as I was out of town yesterday, but I’m excited to be participating in my first read-a-thon, the annual High Summer Read-a-Thon hosted by Michelle of The True Book Addict. The event is running from July 16 to 22 and has the inviting credo of being, “a week of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries.” Sounds perfect! You can sign up […]

In Which I Appreciate Some Inspiring Readers

Hello all! In the last few weeks, one of my favorite bloggers, Matt of Wanton Creation, put me up for two awards, the Inspiring Blog Award and the Reader Appreciation Award! Matt (also known as The Other Watson) has a fantastic blog, where he writes about everything from poetry to hilarious books to his favorite types of tea in a wonderfully humorous voice. It seems the Inspiring Blog Award asks participants to provide seven facts about myself and then nominate […]

Read More/Blog More Poetry, April: Emily Dickinson

Welcome to the April installment of Read More/Blog More Poetry, a monthly blogging event held by Regular Rumination! I’ve been very slowly making my way through Barnes & Noble’s The Collected Poems of Emily Dickinson, skipping around through the different sections and marking my favorite poems with those little colored, sticky, page markers. I would like to do a more in-depth post about Dickinson’s poetry when I finish reading the collection, so today I would just like to share one poem […]

In Which I Play Catch-Up: Blogger awards

Last month, The Dandy Lion over at Free Page Numbers nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award! I am really grateful and excited, although I have been super lazy about officially accepting it. I am probably a terrible person for not immediately posting a message of thanks and passing on the award. But I will try to remedy that now! And then yesterday Shannon from Isleofbooks nominated me for the ABC Award, and I figured I should really get on […]

Read More/Blog More Poetry, March: Allen Ginsberg

Welcome to the March installment of the Read More/Blog More Poetry event hosted by Regular Rumination! As I’ve said before, I don’t know much about poetry and even find it a little intimidating, but I am using this event as a challenge to broaden my literary horizons and learn more about this art form! In the last few days, I’ve actually had a few interesting conversations about poetry, stemming from the Buffalo Small Press Book Fair I attended on Saturday. […]

Two Weeks into “Bleak House” and Going Strong!

Oh gosh, I have been a terrible blogger lately! Last week was crazy, but it’s finally spring break, so I have a little bit more free time to spend writing. For the last 2.5 weeks, I have been participating in Wallace’s “Bleak House” read-along over at Unputdownables. I actually started out the read-along very behind; for various personal reasons, I wasn’t able to start reading until the first week was over! But over the last week and a half, I […]

Read More/Blog More Poetry February: Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Let me start out this post by saying I have never “gotten” poetry. I have always found it super intimidating and hard to understand, and when I had to write five Romantic poems for my high school AP English class, the one I had written in seventh grade and lazily turned in received the highest grade. Clearly, poetry is not something I have ever been very good at. However, I came across the monthly Read More/Blog More Poetry event hosted […]

Bleak House Read-Along

Bleak House Read-Along

I will be joining my first read-along and also reading my first Dickins novel over the next three months! The “Bleak House” read-along is hosted by Wallace (Unputdownables), and I’m super excited about it for a few reasons: 1. The concept of a read-along seems like a long-distance book club, so that should be fun. I love discussing books, but I don’t have any bookish friends (that I see at all regularly anymore — Lindsay, I need you in my […]
