Can you believe it’s September already? I for one am relieved summer is coming to an end, although it feels very strange to not be back at college this time of year. This month was not terribly exciting, but I did get to take a little trip to Toronto to see The Black Keys and The Shins perform! The concert was excellent, but it was held on the same day as this huge Caribbean festival, and trying to drive anywhere […]
Goodness, July went by quickly! I’ve been busy working part time, searching for a full-time job, reading, and trying to squeeze in a few visits with my boyfriend, who lives a few hours away. The highlight of my month was absolutely spending a few days at a cottage on one of the Finger Lakes with my family and some extended family. It was so nice to do some kayaking, water skiing, tubing, and swimming, and to spend time with some […]
June was quite a month! I set a personal record for number of books read in one month, took a trip to Boston with my boyfriend, and started a new job! The job is just hosting at a restaurant near my house while I continue to search for a grown-up, degree-validating job, but it’s still exciting to start something new. Now on to the reading re-cap!
May was quite an exciting month, as evidenced by my lack of blog posts over the last few weeks. The first few weeks of May were spent wrapping up my final year of college — taking exams, writing papers, giving presentations (and, of course, enjoying happy hour and dancing the night away with some great friends). On May 19, my hard work over the last four years paid off, and I graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Communication […]
As I mention on my “about” page, I started this blog in January as a project for my Social Media Marketing class; we were each assigned to pick any topic we were interested in to blog about over the course of the semester so we could learn firsthand about putting social media strategies into practice. I am really glad we did this project; I have really enjoyed running this blog, mostly because of the connections I have made! I love […]
Wow, the end of April rolled around quickly! I can’t believe it’s already time to do a little recap of my reading for the last 30 days! Nothing of much interest happened in my personal life in the last month — just the usual stress of being a last semester senior in college — so I’ll get right to the books!
March was kind of a crazy month! What with a family emergency, picking up an extra shift at work each week, and having just as much coursework as ever, I haven’t had a ton of time for reading, but I did manage to read some good books! I’m also getting more into blogging, and traffic to this little site really grew this month. I really want to thank everyone who reads my posts, and especially those who comment! I love […]
As it is the last day of February (an extra day this year, woohoo!), here is a brief recap of the books I read this month! It took me an entire month, but I finally finished reading “Anna Karenina” by Leo Tolstoy at the beginning of February! I’m happy to be able to cross it off my list, but I can’t say I loved it. Anna drove me crazy; I found her to be selfish and jealous, and I just […]
From here on out, on the last day of each month I will be posting a re-cap of the books I read during that month. My (seemingly unattainable) goal is to read 50 books this year — speaking of, you should check out Katie’s 50 Book Challenge blog — so this will be a little way to track my progress. It’s been a slow month. With getting back into the swing of school and work, I haven’t had a ton […]
Welcome to Books Speak Volumes! I’m a college student in the wonderful town of Buffalo, NY and, as you can probably guess, an avid fan of the written word. With this blog, I aim to inform readers about many different issues concerning the place books hold in today’s society, make some recommendations, and post a few reviews. Feel free to leave comments on any posts. One of the greatest things about literature is its ability to circulate ideas and spark […]
