What I’m Reading Monday, August 24

It’s cool if I just write “What I’m Reading” posts from here on out, right? Because they seem to be all I can muster the motivation to write lately. Life changes, you guys! They’re hard. I just got back to Buffalo after spending a week with my family. It was lovely; I got to spend an afternoon out on the boat, wander through a sculpture garden, go kayaking with a good friend, and spend some quality time with my sister. […]

What I’m Reading Monday, August 17

Hello, booklings. This week has been all over the place. I moved out of my apartment (which was stressful and all kinds of emotional), stayed with a generous friend for a few days, and I’m now visiting my family for some much-needed time with my sister, who is just getting home from a college summer program. I’m not really sure what’s next; the sheer number of options is exciting, but the lack of stability is also terrifying and overwhelming. Guysss, […]

What I’m Reading Monday, August 10

After having a wonderful week at the lake at the end of July, August has gotten off to a pretty rotten start. I generally try to keep from being too negative on the Internet, but it’s been a week of job search woes, packing up my apartment, and feeling generally lonely and lost. I’m trying to follow my sister’s sage advice to remind myself that “everything is temporary,” but mostly I’ve just been throwing myself a major pity party. Reader, I’d […]

July Reads

Where to even start with recapping July? Last month was all over the place for me. In the first two weeks, I broke up with my boyfriend of nearly six years — and the rest of the month was a roller coaster of emotional messiness, spending a lot of time with my best girlfriends, a few leads on jobs that I’m really excited about, a week at the lake with my family, and general anxiety about having no idea where […]

What I’m Reading Monday, Aug. 3

Happy Monday, darlings! I just got home from a week at the lake with my family, and it was exactly what I needed. The weather was perfect, and I got in some good quality swimming, water skiing, tubing, kayaking, twilight boat rides, sunset gazing, chats with family members, and hammock reading. It was a much-needed distraction from some of the uncertainties in my life at the moment. Remember how I said I’m terrible about overpacking books for vacations? Yeah. Of the six books […]

What I’m Reading Monday, July 27

Hello lovelies! I’m writing today from a cottage tucked away in the trees by one of the Finger Lakes in Central New York. It’s only my second full day here, but I’ve already been kayaking, swimming, tubing, hammock reading, and sunset gazing. (I may have also gotten a bit of a sunburn.) I’m so looking forward to the rest of the week! (I’m also trying to forget the fact that I have no idea what’s happening in my life after I […]

What I’m Reading Monday, July 20

Well, this week has been all over the place. The breakup is still rough and messy and sad, but I’ve been keeping busy with some wonderful friends. Although I spent most of the week moping around my apartment, I barely set foot inside the building this weekend; drinks with friends, an evening at the beach, and a day spent kayaking the Buffalo River kept me on the go and my spirits up. I also did some pretty good reading; I savored When Women […]

What I’m Reading Monday, July 13

Oomph, it has been a roller coaster of a week. My car has a broken exhaust system, and the first quote I got for the repairs costs more than my car is actually worth. I took a lightning-fast trip down to NYC, where I got to see one of my best college friends. And then my boyfriend of nearly six years and I broke up. We want different things out of life, and it’s for the best, but it still […]

What I’m Reading Monday, July 6

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday weekend! The boyfriend had Friday off work, so we took the opportunity to go hiking in the Niagara River gorge, and it was absolutely glorious. There are few things I love more than hiking, and although we only spent a few hours on the trail, it felt wonderful. Following up our hike with a late lunch and beers at our favorite neighborhood bar wasn’t bad, either. We then celebrated Independence Day with a […]

June Reads

I know I just posted my list of the best books I’ve read so far this year yesterday, but seriously, how is 2015 halfway over? It’s flying by. June was pretty uneventful. It’s been warm-ish here, but it still doesn’t really feel like summer. I really loved all the books I read (Dietland, The Beautiful Bureaucrat, and Did You Ever Have a Family could all be contenders for my year-end best-of list), but I feel like I spent very little time […]
